My Career & Training

I am a Fully Qualified, ‘Relate’ Trained Relationship & Sex Therapist. I first became interested in Counselling and Therapy when I studied Psychology back in 2001. At the start of 2003 I started training with Relate at their former Herbert Gray College in Rugby Warwickshire(previously known as the marriage Guidance Council) who are respected for being the largest provider of relationship support in the UK.

Previous Experience that has enhanced my role as a counsellor

I gained experience as a support worker for the National Autistic Society in a residential setting, assisting adults with autism to live independently. At East Kent College I worked as a Student Support Progression Technician responsible for a large group of young and mature students. Prior to all of this I left school and qualified as a hairdresser going on to run my own successful salon with a team of eight stylists including trainees. It was this early career that equipped me with excellent people & interpersonal skills, comfortable with meeting new people, helping others, good communicator, making people feel comfortable & relaxed. I returned to Relate as a Relationship Counsellor in November 2015 working at both their Canterbury & Gillingham provisions. I hold the CPCAB (Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) Diploma Certificate in Counselling both level 4 & level 5. I have also qualified as a Sex Therapist with ‘Relate’ accredited by the College of Sexual & Relationship Therapists (CORST) in early 2021, achieving the Relate Professional Certificate of Psychosexual Therapy. I am constantly looking to improve my knowledge and attend various continued professional development training sessions.

Commitment

If I discover that I don’t have the expertise to offer you the best service that your requirements demand, I will endeavour to signpost you to a more suitable source of help, always abiding by the BACP Codes of Ethics and Practice, I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) and a member of CORST (College of Sexual Relationships Therapists) I am committed to attending monthly supervisions with a highly experienced Relate Supervisor. I enjoy building upon my knowledge by attending various training workshops, keeping me up to date with all the new and present challenges people face in their numerous roles within a relationship setting; invariably keen to develop fresh interventions to better support those with whom I work with.

Insurance

I can confirm I have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
